M6: The Dawn of
the Motorway Age
2008 marked the fiftieth anniversary
of one of the most important developments in the UK's road
network. Back on 5th December 1958, the first section of
dedicated motor road was opened; the Preston Bypass marked
the dawn of the motorway era.
